LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Â As of Wednesday, May 5, the state’s official COVID-19 tracking website shows that 854,536 Michigan residents have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 24-hour data increase shows that 2,589 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 42 new deaths.
On Saturday, May 23 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also announced changes to how COVID-19 testing data is reported to make it more accurate and relevant as the state continues to expand diagnostic testing.
Suspect, 20, arrested, charged in shooting of Kalamazoo teen

KALAMAZOO, MI – An Oshtemo Township man is accused of shooting a Kalamazoo teenager last month.
Dondrell Lavance Servant, 20, was arrested Tuesday, May 4, in Kalamazoo, a news release from Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said.
He was arraigned Thursday, May 6, in Kalamazoo County District Court on one felony count each of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.
After Servant was arrested, KDPS executed two search warrants at different apartment complexes, the release said.
Servant was given a $300,000 cash or surety bond by Magistrate Nicholas Schaberg. He has not posted bond, and is lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail, KDPS said.

KALAMAZOO, MI The owners of a Kalamazoo bar under a police investigation over accusations of drink tampering have issued a public denial of any wrongdoing.
Jon Rockwood, part-owner of Y Bar & Bistro, took aim at a woman’s recent social media post that sparked media attention and protests against the bar in a video statement released on YouTube Wednesday, May 5.

The 24-hour data increase shows that 2,527 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 126 new deaths, although 51 of those were identified in vital record reviews.
