Since March 10, when the first death was reported, 17,939 Michiganders have died from the acute respiratory illness. A Breakdown of COVID-19 Data The 24-hour data increase shows that 2,589 more people have contracted the virus. In addition, there were 42 new deaths. On Saturday, May 23 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also announced changes to how COVID-19 testing data is reported to make it more accurate and relevant as the state continues to expand diagnostic testing.

Dondrell Lavance Servant, 20, was arrested Tuesday, May 4, in Kalamazoo, a news release from Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said. He was arraigned Thursday, May 6, in Kalamazoo County District Court on one felony count each of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm. After Servant was arrested, KDPS executed two search warrants at different apartment complexes, the release said. Servant was given a $300,000 cash or surety bond by Magistrate Nicholas Schaberg. He has not posted bond, and is lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail, KDPS said.
