Boiler malfunction leads to Kalamazoo apartment fire

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to a fire that broke out at Fox Ridge Apartments in Kalamazoo today.
Fire crews were told that a boiler experienced issues that set fire to the insulation within the attic, according to Kalamazoo Public Safety. They say the fire was put out after a brief interior attack, adding that a subsequent examination determined that limited damage was dealt to the building.
Weâre told evacuation was not required during the incident.
KDPS says the boiler is no longer functional; however, they add that the American Red Cross will provide shelter to residents until the building can be sufficiently heated.

KALAMAZOO, MI A 45-year-old man was wounded in the chest when a teen family member threw two knives at him, police said.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded about 11:15 a.m. to a residence in the 1300 block of California Avenue on a report of a stabbing.
They arrived to find the 45-year-old man with a non-life-threatening chest wound.
He told officers a 14-year-old male family member threw two knives at him. One missed him but the other struck him in the chest.
Felon out on parole arrested during traffic stop in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO â Police say a known felon out on parole is facing weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop in Kalamazoo.
It happened near the intersection of E. Frank Street and Scudder Court.
Authorities say they noticed the vehicle the suspect was driving had no license plate and soon discovered a small handgun and evidence of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
The 45-year-old resident of Kalamazoo was taken to the Kalamazoo County jail.
