The department is also advising schools not to run mock exams, as part of the calculated grades process. Galway City councillor warns virus clusters among students could extend restrictions Published: Friday, 26 February 2021 12:22 A Galway City Centre councillor says the high prevalence of Covid-19 in the area is very concerning. The local electoral area had a 14-day incidence rate of over five times the national average at 1,292 per 100,000 people as of Monday. It compares to the national average of 240, while Galway City East has the fifth highest rate of infection nationally at 579 cases per 100,000. It has been reported that clusters of the virus stemmed from student accommodation and healthcare settings in the city. Fine Gael Cllr. Eddie Hoare says incidents like this will extend the rolling lockdown even further.
