Gainesville reviewing plans that could mean higher GRU bills for ratepayers

Correction: The online version of this story has been changed to note that both suggested transfers of money from Gainesville Regional Utilities to the city of Gainesville s budget were made by a consulting firm. Electric bills in Gainesville would rise next year under a plan put forth by a consultant and being considered by the City Commission. Under two options being considered by commissioners, both have negatives. In both cases, Gainesville Regional Utilities electric rates would increase and the transfer of funds that are critical to funding the city budget would decrease. The options have been laid out by nFront Consulting based in Oviedo, which was asked to recommend the amount of electric revenues officials should take each year to spend on city services from 2022 to 2027.

Today s letters: Readers comment on end-of-life decisions and more

The Gainesville Sun Complete end-of-life planning As an employee of Haven Hospice in 2003, I was asked to be the coordinator of “end of life” issues in our community. A terrific committee developed the Advance Directive Kit. Subsequently, I had the rewarding opportunity to hold many community workshops, related to decision making, planning ahead and describing one’s wishes and values about quality of life. It has been a real privilege, to relate so closely with people, in meaningful dialogue about such personal thoughts and values. All of us in health care understand the seriousness of this process, in dealing with care at the end of life. I urge everyone to complete this planning, designating someone to speak for you, if the time occurs that you cannot speak for yourself.
