ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday recorded 87 coronavirus deaths in a 24-hour-period and 3,179 new confirmed cases, as the national test positivity ratio dipped down to 6.61 per cent amid expanding targeted lockdowns.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) daily situation update, most of the single-day deaths took place in Punjab, followed by Sindh. Out of the 87 people who fell victim to the virus, 74 died in hospitals. Of the hospital fatalities, 45 died on ventilators.
At least 2,999 coronavirus patients are admitted to hospitals across the country, at least 2,486 are deemed critical, while 279 ventilators are occupied, with Multan leading in ventilator occupancy at 46 per cent, followed by Islamabad 41 per cent, Lahore 34 per cent and Peshawar 21 per cent.

PESHAWAR: The coronavirus on Saturday claimed 15 more lives, including a doctor, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the death toll from the fatal disease to 1536 and the number of doctors, who have died of the infectious disease, has jumped to 38 in the province.
This is the highest number of people who have died of coronavirus in the province in the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.
Among the dead was a one-year baby child, Bisma, who died of coronavirus.
According to Farhad Khan, media manager of the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), a one-year baby girl was brought to them two weeks ago with multiple health complications. He said the baby was diagnosed with coronavirus and was kept in an isolation room. She was shifted to the children ward after her PCR report was declared negative, where she died on Saturday. She was probably the first child who died of coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She belonged to Nowshera district.

Another doctor dies due to coronavirus in Peshawar
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Another doctor has died from coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His death brought the number of casualties of the doctors from COVID-19 to 38 in the country.
Dr. Mohsin Khan, an anesthesiologist stationed at Naseer-ud-Din City Hospital, Kohat Road, Peshawar, had contracted the virus few days ago.
After the positive report of Dr. Mohsin Khan, he was shifted to the IC of Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, where he remained under treatment for a week.
The number of doctors who died from the coronavirus has risen to 38. Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar is currently treating 95 coronavirus patients, including four children.

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) provincial spokesperson and Member Provincial Assembly Samar Haroon Bilour has said that the country is on the verge of bankruptcy due to economic policies of the current ‘selected’ rulers.
Speaking at a news conference here at Press Club on Tuesday, she said inflation, price hike and unemployment had reached its peak but Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet members were claiming that the country was moving in the right direction.
“If the poor and middle-class families could not afford high prices of edible items, how can one claim that the country is on the right track,” she asked and added that the government instead of creating more jobs had terminated services of thousands of employees in Pakistan Steel Mills, PIA and other sectors.
