Limerick firm knits a spot at top international expo Reporter: );   ); A CITY centre knitwear firm is to target international buyers at a creative expo which gets under way today. Linda Wilson Knitwear, based in the Tait Centre in Dominic Street, is putting together an exhibition for Showcase Ireland’s Creative Expo, which runs until Friday. Established by award-winning designer Linda Wilson in 2000, the firm uses silk, cashmere and 100% merino lambswool which produces textiles that have a rich sense of the Irish knit heritage. Linda’s experience of growing up in rural Donegal is also reflected in the garments she creates.

Design led: New Bauhuas plan creates an opportunity for Irish practitioners

The Design & Crafts Council Ireland is planning a series of industry events aimed at capitalising on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s push for a ‘New European Bauhaus’. Named after the Bauhaus German design movement of the early 20th century, the Commission’s idea is to back projects and policies that combine design, sustainability, accessibility, affordability and investment in order to help deliver the European Green Deal. The ultimate aim is to make Europe carbon neutral by 2050 including renovating 35 million buildings by 2030. Interim Design Council chair Andrew Bradley said the initiaitive to incorporate design and design thinking into policy represents a huge opportunity for the design sector.

Based out of Monasterevin, the extensive range of clothing and accessories are designed to have the traditional Irish Aran Stitches throughout to keep each garment connected to the generations of Irish craftmanship the company has known.

And because they are so keen to spread the word on all the great things to see and learn online they sent it on to RTÉ to celebrate the wonderful work still going on even in these tough times. Unsurprisingly, there’s lots of materials covering art and history. But there’s some for English, Irish, science and maths too. There s over 20 museum websites offer plenty of ways to engage students and make most of e-learning.
