KOCHI: Pinarayi 2.0 is expected to give a massive push to the mega infrastructure projects initiated in the first term, including the Rs 64,000-crore semi-high speed rail project connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod and the 610-km waterways project connecting 11 districts, besides tackling the financial crisis-cum-bloated labour issues of KSRTC.
“The mandate is for the continuation of the development projects initiated by the LDF government. There are several unfinished projects and we can also expect to see several new works getting initiated, as outlined in the LDF election manifesto,” said Harilal K N, member of Kerala State Planning Board and associate fellow in Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram.

CM likely to undertake short cruise on solar boat from Veli after opening
Overcoming several hurdles over decades, the 310-km stretch of the inland waterway from Veli to Chavakkad will be commissioned on February 15, opening a new fuel-efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
The rejuvenated waterway, a pet project of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, is from Veli to Kollam (State Waterway: 62 km) and the National Waterway’s 168 km from Kollam to Kottapuram and Kottapuram to Chavakkad (80 km).

The project to make the 633-km West Coast Canal (WCC) from Kovalam to Kasaragod navigable has got a fillip with the commissioning of the 310-km stretch of the inland waterway from Veli to Chavakkad by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday. The project is being taken up as per the National Waterways specifications at ₹2,300 crore.
