Stateside s conversation with Eric Hemenway and Netawn Kiogima Last month the U.S. Department of Interior announced an investigation into the hundreds of now-closed residential boarding schools across the United States. For more than a century, the federal government forcibly enrolled Native American children in these schools, meant to assimilate them into white culture. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, a member of the Pueblo of Laguna, said that the investigation is a chance “to recover the dark history of these institutions that have haunted our families for too long.” It follows recent revelations in Canada of two mass graves of First Nations children found buried on residential school grounds on opposite sides of the country.

Over the next two weeks, PokerStars will hold a series of online poker events in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, with more than $2.5 million in prizes to be awarded. Starting this weekend, PokerStars will begin a summer tournament series in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. A total of $2.5 million in prize money will be awarded. The series features 100 events with buy-ins of $100 or less, with opportunities for players to get in the action for free. In addition to the lower-cost buy-ins, the PokerStars events will use “turbo formats,” where blinds increase at a much faster pace than in typical tournaments.
