John Fischer, who served on the Flagler County School Board from 2010 to 2014, has died, Flagler Schools reported on Twitter on May 14. He was a dynamo of positivity, attending events in his suit and tie throughout the district on a daily basis even after he was no longer on the School Board.
During his tenure on the board, he helped institute the school uniform policy, encouraging students to Dress for success. He was also a devout man of faith.
School Board Chairman Trevor Tucker said in a Flagler Schools tweet: You couldn t find a bigger cheerleader for our kids, teachers, staff, and administrators in all of Flagler County.

Last year, the Flagler County Education Foundation created the Scholarship Caravan, complete with yard signs, featuring student photos, scholarship names, and sponsoring organizations. Sarah Flannery, a senior at Matanzas, is the recipient of the first Mary Rose Hoffman AAUW Scholarship. Flannery seeks to trade her Pirate mascot for that of the Georgia Institute of Technology Yellowjackets, while pursuing her bachelor s in chemical and biomolecular engineering. As Black History Month ended, AAUW Flagler Board members received welcomed news from its S.T.U.F.F. Bus Chair, Haydee Bernal. What is S.T.U.F.F. Bus? Supplying Things U Find Fundamental is a critical program, founded by the Flagler County Education Foundation, which provides essential supplies and clothing to students in families experiencing economic difficulties. Since 2012, AAUW Flagler has organized monthly donation campaigns to meet the needs of Flagler County students. Upon assuming her duties as S.T.U.F.F. Bus Chair, and in addition to her tasks as Co-Secretary, Ms. Bernal sought to expand the program’s potential, and according to AAUW Co-President Martha Butler, Haydee Bernal is taking it to “the next level.”
