State: Volusia, Flagler schools count almost 1,900 cases of COVID-19
The report from the Florida Department of Health includes cases reported at private schools.
This week the Volusia County school district stopped regular temperature checks at schools for students, staff and visitors. The safety procedure was implemented when school began this year, but was not a recommended measure by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC updated its existing guidance last week to say teachers don t need to be vaccinated for schools to reopen safely, and reinforced its recommendation to socially distance. This has been difficult to achieve in Volusia County, where the majority of students are learning in-person.
Rotary Club of Palm Coast
Starting in March 2020, the Rotary Club of Palm Coast was forced to eliminate all of its in-person fundraising due to the pandemic. In spite of this setback, the club came up with creative solutions to continue to support community organizations.
Rotary members fund all of the administrative costs for each club so that 100% of the money raised can be used for charitable giving. Key areas of focus for The Rotary Club of Palm Coast include children, maternal health, and literacy.
In support of these goals, the club’s December Online Holiday Auction, along with member contributions, enabled the organization to make donations this month to both Christmas Come True and Flagler Technical College’s Adult Education programs, specifically GED scholarships for participants in the Open Door Re-Entry & Recovery Ministry.
It never stopped.
