3 letters: on Lakeview development and Janet McDonald s COVID comments

Lakeview development may enhance the area Dear Editor: I m not sure why you picked Diana Minotti and me as particular respondents in your article about the Lakeview Estates? It seems strange when so many others were far more opinionated and threatening.  I noticed that you quoted me, but you left off a little bit more of my comment at the lectern that was said that evening. The part that was left out was that the project needed another way to be approved. That way was the recommendations of both the planning board and city staff. The proposal of the developer was too big and hard to comprehend. It could have been a better presentation had they brought the drone presentation to the planning board. The drone presentation was unique and professionally done.

Zero Doses of Vaccines for Flagler This Week, Few In Weeks Ahead

There were 398 confirmed new cases in Flagler in the week ending Saturday, by far a new record, with no letup in sight and no vaccines ahead. Click on the graph for larger view. (© FlaglerLive) There were as many new, confirmed coronavirus cases in the single week ending Saturday in Flagler County–398–than there’d been in the entirety of the pandemic from February through July 4. The prognosis for the days ahead is worse. And the county may get very little, if any, more vaccines over the next five weeks, local officials say. Bob Snyder, who heads the Flagler County Health Department, spoke as if at a wake when he updated the Flagler County Commission this morning, and in many ways it was. It was his grimmest update yet in nearly a year of reporting on the pandemic’s local consequences.

Jon Netts, Longest-Serving Palm Coast Mayor and Council Member, the City s Towering Founder, Dies at 78

Jon and Priscilla Netts in the backyard of their F-Section home in Palm Coast. (© FlaglerLive) Jon Netts, whose 15 years on the Palm Coast City Council shaped the young city and set the standard for measured, commanding and dignified leadership, died this evening at AdventHealth Palm Coast of complications from Covid-19. He was 78. His death is a devastating blow to a city in whose founding he had played a towering role, and a community he was still serving in numerous capacities. He’d been appointed to the council again just last summer to serve out the term of ex-Council member Jack Howell. He was continuing to serve on the Florida Inland Navigation District and the city’s Code Enforcement Board, where he’d gotten his start in local community service in 1999 after moving from New Jersey to Palm Coast with his wife Priscilla in 1992.

Citing accuracy concerns, School Board asks staff to rework mitigation agreement with Gardens developer

2 months ago Share The Gardens residents would be zoned to two over-capacity schools. The developer will have to pay to mitigate the development s impact on the school district. Old Kings Elementary and Flagler Palm Coast High School are over capacity, and the developer of a proposed residential community that would add more students to those schools will have to pay to offset the development s burden on the school district. I’m still not clear on why we would adopt or approve something when we know that there’s an error, when we have an opportunity to correct that error.   COLLEEN CONKLIN, School Board member
