Nestled behind a subdivision on the eastern edge of Springfield, Missouri lays an oasis for young girls and experienced equestrians alike. Housed in a hilltop stable, The Libby Ferguson Training Center bustles with the activity of both riders and horses.
For owner Libby Ferguson, horses have been a lifelong passion.
âIâve always loved horses, for as long as I can remember. I got my first horse when I was 8, and I started showing horses when I was about 11,â Ferguson said.
Her career as an instructor started as a side project during her college years.
âI ended up getting back into it by a lady I used to show horses for,â Ferguson said. âShe had someone leave her barn and asked if I wanted to come give lessons. I was going to college at the time and thought âWhy not?â I had a couple horses at the time so I could do it. It was something fun to get back into it. So here I am.â

Someone once asked how I come up with ideas for a weekly column. That is always a challenge, but my dog actually helps out. Many of my ideas for this space over the last four years have come while taking Roxy, our gentle and adorable pitbull, on 30-minute walks in our neighborhood. Thereâs something about a tranquil stroll that helps the creative process, particularly during morning hours.
An early walk during springtime, with the morning sun not yet at full display and birds filling the air with their music, is one of those pleasures of life that never grows old. It frees the mind to ponder and develop ideas that eventually take the shape of an actual column.
Converted Illinois Grain Silo is True Farmhouse Glamping Getaway
Illinois is filled with unique places to get away for a weekend. If glamping is your kind of weekend, this silo in the middle of a farm is perfect for you.
In the last few years, my wife and I, have fallen in love using apps like Airbnb and VRBO to book our overnights. We ve stayed in some pretty spectacular spaces. Often, you ll find something better than any hotel, and most likely cheaper too.
Finding a fun place to stay using one of these apps has made trip planning really fun. While looking for some cool places to share with you here in Illinois, I found a site that caters to Glampers. If you don t know that word, chances are you aren t one. yet. That may soon change.
