Truman Haut, a fifth generation funeral director at Haut Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, answers questions related to funeral planning.
How much money can be put away for a funeral service if the person is on Medicaid? Does it take long to make a funeral trust irrevocable for a person on Medicaid?
The process does not take a long time and we can help you right at the funeral home, if done in person it usually takes 10 minutes. The process can also be done through the mail if preferred. As of August 1, 2019, the state Legislature passed HB1318 which allows additional funds to be set aside as long as they are irrevocable and itemized. The amount is only limited by the itemization you choose, which is an increase from the $6,000 limit before.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â Every year, American Cemetery & Cremation Magazine, the leading trade magazine focusing on the cemetery business, honors the best-run cemeteries in the country with their American Cemetery Excellence Award. This year, out of dozens of cemeteries considered for this prestigious award, Greenlawn Funeral Homes & Cemeteries was recognized as one of only four finalists.
Under La Marâs leadership since 2009, Greenlawn has grown dramatically to better serve the needs of Bakersfield and greater Kern County Residents.
La Mar says âItâs important to try new things, we canât be stuck in the past doing the things the same way weâve always done things.â
