Mother, three daughters all nurses during COVID-19 pandemic
Hayden Mills has a right to be proud.
In a recent Facebook post, he shared pictures of his mother, Colette Mills, and three sisters, Caitlin Ackeret, Lainey Mills and Hannah Mills, who are all nurses.
That profession is in the spotlight this year as health care professionals are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pandemic Christmas: Health officials concerned about a potential ‘surge on top of a surge’ after holidays
State and local health officials are expressing concern that Indiana could see “a surge on top of a surge” as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in much of the state, including Bartholomew County, remain high heading into Christmas and New Year’s.
Chief among their concerns is that people will let their guards down and defy appeals to not travel, avoid large gatherings, wear masks and maintain physical distance, which could ultimately contribute to a repeat of the autumn surge, which resulted in 3,866 COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths in Bartholomew County.
Former officers receive suspended sentences after pleading guilty to ghost employment

Two former Columbus Police Department officers have been given suspended sentences by a special judge after pleading guilty to ghost employment.
Dan Meister, 47, 952 Jackson St., Hope and Ron May, 59, 8015 S. County Road 875W, Columbus were originally charged with official misconduct, ghost employment and theft as Level 6 felonies.

Both work a second job providing security at Columbus Regional Hospital while clocked in as city officers. Meister is accused of overlapped hours worked on 52 separate occasions, while May is accused of overlapped hours on 62 separate occasions between Jan. 1, 2013 and Aug. 31, 2018, according to a State Board of Accounts audit.
Four injured in weekend accident
Four individuals were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital following a traffic accident in Columbus on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 11:34 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Columbus Regional Hospital EMS, Columbus Township Fire Department and Indiana State Police, responded to a traffic accident with injury at the intersection of State Road 7 and U.S. 31.
On arrival, deputies located two vehicles involved.
Four individuals, Matthew Ditsworth, 40, Indianapolis, Earl Caudill, 51, Dupont, Sherry Caudill, 45, Dupont, and a juvenile male were transported to CRH.
The investigation is ongoing, deputies said.
