CONMEBOL is grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Ivan Duque and his collaborators, as well as by the president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramon Jesurun, and his team. The 2021 Copa America will no longer feature games in co-host Colombia after the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) decided on Thursday to move games away from the country after a wave of civil unrest there.
The BBC quote Conmebol as saying: We guarantee the realisation of the 2021 Copa America and in the coming days will inform on the relocation of those games that were to be held in Colombia.
In addition, the remainder of the continental cup games (Copa Libertadores) that were due to be held in the country have now been moved to Paraguay and Ecuador.
Argentina have offered to become the sole hosts of the Copa America but as things stand, they are in a strict lockdown until May 31 due to a recent wave of coronavirus cases, which could prove to be problematic.
