TAMPA, Fla. â Only paid passengers flying in or out of Tampa International Airport can eat inside the airport terminals. And, that is putting restaurants inside airside terminals in a tough spot.
Some restaurants reopened, while others are still waiting for travelers to come back.
Miami (WFOR) Even with tight COVID-19 restrictions and a scaled-down fan experience, football fans will be flocking to Tampa for a chance to be part of Super Bowl 55.
But the city’s metro area, like almost everywhere else around the country, is home to a sagging economy because of the pandemic.
“The bottom fell out. We had conventions, events like WrestleMania scheduled to come, the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. All those things went away immediately,” said Santiago Corrada, CEO of Visit Tampa Bay.
Corrada, the President of Visit Tampa Bay, says county hotel occupancy is down by about 20 percent, and the city has been on the receiving end of poor timing.
TAMPA Kristie Farnell, who has worked in executive financial roles for several companies, was named CFO of the Columbia Restaurant Group.
She replaces Dennis Fedorovich, who is leaving but will remain with the company as an adviser and on the board of the company, according to a statement. The Columbia Restaurant Group, which dates back to 1905 and is headquartered in Ybor City, has 12 locations, under the brands Columbia, Ulele, Goody Goody and Cha Cha Coconuts and some 1,400 employees.
Fedorovich says the move was part of a long-term succession delayed because of the COVID-19 crisis. Farnell, who started with the Columbia in July, most recently worked as Controller at PDQ Restaurant group, with other experience at Walkabout Air Inc. and Navigant Consulting Inc.

In 2009, during Tampa s last Super Bowl, the restaurant started filling reservations and parties 6 months in advance.
