U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said they found 27 pounds of cocaine in a truck driver’s belongings during an inspection on April 16 at the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge.Courtesy /U.S. Customs and Border Protection
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $200,000 worth of cocaine at the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge, authorities said.
On April 16, a CBP officer referred a 2005 International tractor hauling an empty trailer for a secondary examination. The tractor was driven by a 27-year-old male Mexican citizen.
K-9 and X-ray inspections resulted in the discovery of 10 packages containing 27.77 pounds of cocaine concealed within the driver’s belongings, CBP said. The contraband had an estimated street value of about $214,200.

Laredo, Texas, gets third cold storage inspection facility
Officials in Laredo, Texas, are planning to build a third temperature-controlled federal import inspection facility to accommodate cross-border produce from Mexico.
The 22,000-square-foot, 18-bay facility will be located near the Colombia Solidarity International Bridge, 20 miles north of Laredo. The project is part of a public-private partnership with Laredo-based Garros Services.

Under the partnership, Garros Services will build the $10 million facility on property it owns near the bridge, according to the Laredo Morning Times. No timetable for construction has been announced. Garros Services currently operates Laredo’s cold storage inspection facilities at the World Trade Bridge and the Colombia Solidarity Bridge.

A man wanted for sexually assaulting a child in Dallas has been arrested at the Colombia Solidarity International Bridge, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Arturo Vasquez Tovar, 22, arrived on Jan. 12 at the Colombia Solidarity International Bridge. A CBP officer processing vehicle traffic referred Vasquez Tovar, a U.S. citizen, to secondary inspection.
Biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed that he had an outstanding warrant for sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, out of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in Dallas.
