Schmidt co-authored a letter to congressional leaders alongside District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine encouraging the passage of the Jabara-Heyer No Hate Act. The legislation aims to provide federal grants to improve upon hate crimes reporting as well as increasing penalties for federal hate crimes. The grants would be used to train employees on identifying, classifying, and reporting hate crimes in the FBI’s national database, assist with the further development of programs to prevent such crimes, increase community education about them, and create state-run ha
