MEEKER | The Meeker School District Board of Education met Monday, Dec. 14 to take care of a variety of business items. First up was the approval of new hire Claudia Mosher as Barone Middle School’s paraprofessional interventionist, followed by an informative presentation from Torrie Gerloff, who interned at MHS for 15 weeks. Gerloff taught business English and assisted with US literature and college composition courses under the direction of Kathleen Kelley.
“I think what I took away the most from having Mrs. Kelley be my mentor teacher is that building relationships is key to teaching,” Gerloff said.

The Colorado High School Activities Association plans to offer three student-based mental health web-based seminars this week to address student mental health concerns related to the COVID-disrupted sports seasons and activities.
The webinars, titled “Taking Care of You When Your World Has Been Turned Upside Down,” are slated to take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to a CHSAA press release.
The sessions are to be conducted by JC Pohl, an award-winning author and producer of “Teen Truth,” and Caleb Campbell, West Point graduate and former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, who is nationally known for his work around student mental health and resilience.
The council voted to approve many items in the 2021 budget.
The first was Ordinance 725, which appropriated sums of money to defray expenses and liabilities to the city of Las Animas for the 2021 fiscal year.
It also approved resolution 10-20, which levies general property taxes for 2020 to help defray the costs of government for the city of Las Animas for the 2021 budget year.
It approved Resolution 11-20, which adopts the 2021 light and power budget. It also approved Resolutions 12-20, 13-20 and 14-20, which approved the weed abatement assessment dated Tuesday and authorized certification of the same to the Bent County treasurer.
