Manitou Springs council members say they learn more from media than city
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) There appears to be tension among Manitou Springs council members and city leaders over the information being released to the public.
Specifically, some council members say they are learning more about what the city is doing from media reports than their own city government they represent. This comes in the wake of the town s police chief resigning after being placed on administrative leave for months.
In a city council meeting Tuesday evening, Manitou Springs council members Julie Wolfe, John Shada and Judith Chandler expressed concerns over not being made aware of what the city is releasing when responding to open records requests.
Heather Gard sits on the edge of her late son’s bed in the exact spot where she last saw him and shared a hug with him at the family’s home in Breckenridge. “I went in to give him a hug and he didn’t even stand up,” Gard said about her last hug with Toby, following a late night argument about going out of the house in April 2020, “Which was really not like Toby to (not stand up for the hug).”

The firefighters who just showed up at your house for a medical emergency or to douse a neighborâs house fire might have already worked 40 hours or more that week at a side hustle unrelated to their fire service duties.
They may have cooked at a local steak house, pulled extra shifts with an area fire department or a private ambulance service, written mortgage loans, taught at a local college, installed hardwood flooring or worked on remodeling a house they are hoping to flip for a six-figure profit.
Manitou Springs Councilwoman Susan Wolbrueck has resigned, the city announced Wednesday, the second city official to step down from her position in three weeks.
In an April 4 resignation letter addressed to Mayor John Graham, Wolbrueck cited a family death as the reason for her resignation. I would like to remain as private as possible about my reasons for resignation, simply stating that my circumstances in my life have changed and that I no longer have the time to appropriately serve, she said in the letter.
Wolbrueck, first elected in 2017 to represent Manitou Springs’ first ward its southern portion didn t attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting and on Wednesday morning the city website listed a vacancy in Ward 1.
