Young doctor Alejandro Marin is named CSU Pueblo distinguished alumni

A young eye doctor who has been pulled to work in the intensive care unit at a Denver hospital during the coronavirus pandemic got his start in college at Colorado State University Pueblo. Dr. Alejandro Marin, a 2014 graduate, has been named a 2020 Distinguished Young Alumni by the university’s foundation and alumni association. The award is bestowed on outstanding alumni who are under the age of 35. Marin earned his doctor of medicine degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora in May and was set to embark on further training in his specialty of ophthalmology when the pandemic pulled him in a different direction.

Pueblo Chieftain news director: I will work hard to deliver the news

I grew up reading The Pueblo Chieftain. An avid sports fan, I would clip photos from the sports section of my favorite athletes, Sammy Sosa and Michael Jordan. I would read box scores of local preps teams (in particular my alma mater Pueblo County High School). And as I got older, I would read The Chieftain to stay up-to-date on current news. In high school, in Florence Relph’s journalism class, I would imagine myself the sports editor of the paper someday. Fast forward some 16 years later, and I’m writing this in the editor’s office of The Pueblo Chieftain.

After death of Tundra, meet CSU Pueblo ThunderWolf mascot in training

Mark and Carol Rickman ran across the frozen turf at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl for the first time with a brand new four-legged member of the Pack family. Roch    a 1-year-old Siberian husky, malamute, boxer and Belgian Malinois mix  scampered with purpose from the west sideline, stopping at the Colorado State University Pueblo logo at the 50-yard line. He didn t mark his territory, but he seemed to know he was at home. He says, I like this, Carol Rickman said as the pup pulled her across the field like a receiver running a quick out route. All this for me?, her husband said, mimicking Roch as the pup stood tall staring at the south end zone.

CSU-Pueblo s Cannabis Research Institute Jumps Through Plenty of Hoops to Study a Schedule I Drug

Studies that include potential therapeutic applications on humans require approval from the Food and Drug Administration and an institutional review board, says Kinney, while the Schedule I designation separates marijuana from other therapeutics that are considered. On top of FDA and IRB approval, researchers handling marijuana must also receive a Schedule I license issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration. After making it through that obstacle, researchers must then get their plant material through the National Institute of Drug Abuse’s Drug Supply Program, which sources its marijuana exclusively from the University of Mississippi. (A 2017 study found that the cannabis grown at Ole Miss looks nothing like weed in legal dispensaries, with the Mississippi product containing roughly one-third of the THC found in weed from Colorado, California and Washington.)
