Where is Santa Claus? NORAD, Google trackers help you find jolly old St. Nick

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. For 65 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa Claus in the sky on Christmas Eve. This year will be no different.
Starting on Christmas Eve, the NORAD Tracks Santa program will update families and children on where they can find Santa Claus and his sleigh in the night sky. Those interested in following along can visit NORADSanta.org.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, only a handful of volunteers will be answering toll-free calls to the NORAD Tracks Santa call center on Christmas Eve at 1-877-Hi-NORAD. Callers who do not reach one of the volunteers will receive a recorded update on Santa’s current location.

The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations “hotline.” The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born. NORAD men, women, family and friends have volunteered their time to respond to phone calls and emails from children all around the world.
