Like a spurned suitor, Colorado Springs officials tried in vain for more than 20 years to woo much-coveted Southwest Airlines and its discount airfares to the city.
But after years of rejection and disappointment, everything changed for Colorado Springs in just a matter of a few weeks. Now, Southwest is poised to launch service in March from the Colorado Springs Airport.
As unlikely as it might seem, air travelers looking forward to Southwestâs discount fares can thank the COVID-19 pandemic, in part, for opening the door to the carrierâs decision to consider Colorado Springs. Then, signs of growth around the Springsâ airport and an array of new city amenities and public improvements helped dazzle Southwest officials, who also were given a promise of $2.5 million in public and private incentives to help seal the deal.
Colorado Rapids sign center back Michael Edwards to 2-year contract
This deal was first rumored last Wednesday. Now it’s official.

On March 4, the Colorado Rapids signed center back Michael Edwards to a Homegrown contract for two years with a club option for an additional two years. The Rapids first had to acquire Edwards’ Homegrown rights from DC United, which they did in exchange for $75,000 of 2021 General Allocation Money.
Edwards has been in Germany playing with Wolfsburg’s youth teams since 2018 and is a product of the DC United Academy. Edwards has spent time with Wolfsburg’s first team in training, but was unable to crack a matchday squad.

The USL Championship announced the alignment of its four divisions for the 2021 season on Tuesday. With 31 teams, the league will consist of three eight-team divisions the Atlantic and Central Divisions of the Eastern Conference, and the Pacific Division in the Western Conference and one division with only seven teams, the Mountain Division in the Western Conference. Teams will play 32 games over a 27-week period with a flexible start date between April 24 and May 15.
Teams will play their division opponents four times each, with two home games and two away games. The remaining games four for teams in the Atlantic, Central, and Pacific Divisions, eight games for the Mountain Division will be played against regional or cross-conference opponents.
