Candidate Elevator Pitch
Jim Mason: I am running for City Council, District 1 because I want to assist in shaping Colorado Springs’ future and to continue the successful and forward-thinking work that has led to significant improvements with infrastructure and the restoration of Downtown. I promise to serve with competence, respect, and relentless energy in deciding the best courses of action in support of the continued security and prosperity of Colorado Springs and its residents. For over 15 years, I have served at the grassroots level in volunteer roles including Director, Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education and as a Commissioner with the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority Board. Through this experience, I understand the challenges and opportunities confronting District 1 and Colorado Springs.
Theyâre certainly not as sexy as presidential elections, but the truth is, local elections provide the greatest opportunity for your vote to make an impact. Instead of being one in 160 million, your voice and choice are amplified; itâs one among several thousand. The city of Colorado Springs should announce the winners of six Council seats and the outcome of one ballot issue after polls close on Election Day, April 6. Ballots will be mailed March 12, so be on the lookout.Â

Glenn Carlson District 1, northwest Colorado Springs Carlson, 37 and the co-owner of Absolute Body Balance, wants to bolster economic recovery from the pandemic possibly by expanding tax breaks for businesses. Carlson is also a board member for the Trails and Open Space Coalition, a group that advocates for investment in parks, and he would work to create, protect and preserve parks especially in poorer neighborhoods to provide safe places for kids to play. He would also prioritize updating zoning codes. Carlson is a Colorado Springs native.

A driving range with climate-controlled hitting bays will be part of the 54,000-square-foot Topgolf formerly Crush Golf entertainment venue that s under construction at the 200-acre Polaris Pointe retail complex in northern Colorado Springs.
