Avon s Wildridge area will see slash pile burning Jan 27, 28

Special to the Daily The Eagle Valley Wildand Team, consisting of members from Greater Eagle Fire Protection District and Eagle River Fire Protection District, in cooperation with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, United States Forest Service, Eagle County and the Town of Avon will be burning slash piles in the Wildridge Neighborhood. Burning operations will occur as weather and snow conditions permit, and are tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28, 2021. Due to the number of piles, burning operations could take several days. Burning will only be conducted under specific guidelines established by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, including having adequate snow cover on the ground and acceptable weather forecasts that meet guidelines for safe and effective burning and adequate smoke dispersal.

2020 had a record 22 billion-dollar weather disasters, according to NOAA Philip Pacheco/Getty Images BY: LEIGHTON SCHNEIDER, ABC NEWS (NEW YORK) There were 22 billion-dollar weather and climate disasters in 2020, according to a new analysis from the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration.  The total damages from the 22 disasters totaled approximately $95 billion and killed at least 262 people, according to NOAA. Last year, there were a record number of hurricanes named in the Atlantic, with a record 12 making landfall in the Southeast. Seven of those cyclones caused damage exceeding one billion dollars, which NOAA says is a record since it started keeping track of billion-dollar damages in 1980.

Ray Erku / Post Independent Before an enormous American flag draped across the wall, outgoing Colorado River Fire Rescue Chief Randy Callahan took the department’s fire engine red flag with a distinct sense of decorum and handed it to newly sworn-in chief Leif Sackett. Adorned in traditional firefighter dress uniforms in front of cohorts and family inside Station 41 in Rifle on Saturday, the two chiefs would carry out the first official change of command ceremony in CRFR history. “The time has come for me to climb down the ladder,” Callahan said during a speech prior to Sackett being sworn in.
