The Court of Appeal today granted bail on retired Army Major, Attorney-at-Law Ajith Prasanna. He was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each. Ajith Prasanna had been remanded by Colombo Magistrate’s Court over an allegation that he had intimidated witnesses in a case before Magistrate’s Court during two media conferences.

The two suspects including former MP Abdullah Maharoof, who were arrested over the misuse of vehicles belonging to Lanka Sathosa during the 2015-2019 period, have been remanded until tomorrow (17).
The order was delivered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court when the case was taken up today via Skype, before Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court today that, according to the information which came to light during investigations, former MP Maharoof – the first suspect in the case – had misused three vehicles rented by Lanka Sathosa.
Monthly rent of Rs 195,000 was reportedly paid for each vehicle and thereby, the suspect has misappropriated nearly Rs 1.2 million through the illegal use of the three vehicles.

Sounds like a petty issue. Do you need to put someone behind bars for these petty issues specifically when remands are overcrowded and with full of people infected with corona. If we have to arrest and remand everyone misusing the public vehicles then we need to build additional remands and prisons because everyone

Vows to bring all involved in bond scam before court
The Attorney General (AG) of Singapore has sought a clarification from Sri Lanka’s AG as to whether the charges on which Central Bank former Governor Arjun Mahendran has been indicted fall within the ambit of the extradition treaty between the two countries, Justice Minister Ali Sabry said yesterday.
He told Parliament that the extradition process to get Mahendran to Sri Lanka to face charges in connection with the bond scam are ongoing and the AG will continue to make representations to his Singaporean counterpart.
