Family mourns the loss of 23-year-old who died in the Grand Canyon
The Carter family is grieving the loss of her 23-year-old son who fell 80 feet in Grand Canyon National Park.
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK - A Phoenix man has died after falling from a trail at the Grand Canyon National Park, officials said on Dec. 16.
Park rangers said 23-year-old Jai Quan Carter was day hiking when he fell nearly 80 feet from the South Kaibab Trail Tuesday morning.
His mother, Lisa Carter, says she had no idea where her son was for days. He loved the outdoors, but he rarely made trips to the Grand Canyon.
Jaiquan Carter, 23, from Phoenix, died Tuesday in the park
He fell from the popular South Kaibab Trail and landed above the Black Bridge
Incident unfolded when Carter was day hiking along the trail, authorities said
An investigation has been launched by the National Park Service in partnership with the Coconino County Medical Examiner s Office
His death comes just six months after a 49-year-old woman died from heat exhaustion while hiking along the same trail in June
In July another woman died when she fell 100 feet from another park trail

PHOENIX A 23-year-old man is dead after officials say he fell about 80 feet from a trail in Grand Canyon National Park on Tuesday.
Grand Canyon National Park officials said Jai Quan Carter was hiking along the South Kaibab Trail when he fell.
He is believed to have fallen about 80 feet and died.

According to a spokesperson for the park, there isn t currently any ice or snow in the area where Carter fell.
