Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) has announced the launch of a new variant of the Monster energy drink brand, which is “supercharged” with a blend of nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide gas.
The blended gas technology used for Monster Nitro is said to deliver a uniquely light, dry carbonated texture.
The 500ml variant contains 32mg of caffeine per 100ml, with a citrus flavour. The launch is being supported with POS materials carrying the strapline ‘BRING THE N2OISE’.
Monster Nitro is the fourth new product from the brand this year, following the launch of Monster Mule, Monster Ultra Fiesta and Monster Juiced Monarch in January.

Just like frying pans for cooking brekkie and bread knives for making sarnies, cocktail shakers have become essential household utensils during Covid-19. At least, that’s how it looks. Because, with their favourite drinking holes closed for much of the past year, thirsty Brits have been mixing cocktails at home with abandon. And that has sent sales of mixers sky high. The sector has grown in value over the past year by 29.6% to £307.1m [Kantar 52 w/e 27 December 2020].
That makes it the strongest-performing segment of the total soft drinks category, notes Kantar analyst Sam Plimmer. “The rise of the sector can only be linked to how in-home alcohol consumption increased throughout the Covid restrictions during the course of the year, meaning that complementary categories also stood to benefit,” he says. “In addition, more shoppers are buying spirits than wine for the first time, as shoppers expanded their alcohol repertoire owing particularly to NPD such as cream

In an open letter sent to lawmakers earlier this week, the businesses state that such a move would “put Europe on the pathway to deliver emissions reductions in line with what is needed to meet the ambitions of the Paris Agreement” while “providing a clear signal to automotive manufacturers and suppliers” and firms in related sectors. This signal, it states, will help governments work with the private sector to deliver “timely investments” at the scale needed.
Coca-Cola European Partners has added a new ‘Nitro’ energy drink to its Monster brand.
The drink is said to be enhanced with nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide to create a “uniquely light, dry carbonated texture”.
It contains 32g of caffeine per 100ml, and has a “satisfying citrus taste”, said CCEP.
It’s the latest in a flurry of NPD from the brand since January, joining Monster Mule, Monster Ultra Fiesta and Monster Juiced Monarch on shelves.
CCEP commercial development associate director Gemma Nicholas said the brand must “continue to innovate, to secure [shoppers’] long-term loyalty and maintain engagement”. “With the launch of Monster Nitro, we’re giving our fans something they’ve never had before.”
