My parents grew up on a farm in Selma, Alabama, during segregation. They came of age as the world was changing and education wasn’t always afforded to a lot of people of color during those times. Going to college was a big deal. To see their children go to college and go on and be successful is the greatest reward for them. As their child, it makes me proud that they are happy. We all strive to make our parents proud and there is nothing greater than going on and making something of yourself where you are giving back and contributing to society because you are the next generation.
