Pima County and Santa Cruz County Sheriffs say they do not want assistance from National Guard
TUCSON (KVOA) - After declaring a state of emergency along the southern border, Gov. Doug Ducey visited the border region in Yuma Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Ducey announced he was deploying the Arizona National Guard to the border to support local law enforcement efforts.
This as he says the nation experiences a rapid increase in apprehensions and migrant children in federal custody.
National Guard members are being deployed to Pinal, Cochise and Yuma Counties.
They will not be deployed to Santa Cruz or Pima County.
Undocumented migrants discovered hiding in Benson High School parking lot
BENSON Benson police officers responded to a call around 9:15 p.m. Friday involving undocumented immigrants hiding under cars in the Benson High School parking lot, according to Police Chief Paul Moncada.
“Officers found a vehicle with a U.S. citizen and a passenger, along with three UDAs (undocumented aliens) who were detained,” the chief said. “Three other UDAs ran north from the school.”
Illegal immigrants are escaping capture at more than double the pace of a year ago, according to Texas figures that show the surge of migrants being caught at the border is just a part of the problem the Biden administration is facing.
