Coachella Valley High School hosts vaccination clinic for staff and eligible residents
A mobile vaccine clinic was held Thursday at Coachella Valley High School in Thermal as part of continued efforts increase commitment to provide COVID vaccine to the valley s low-income communities. We want to deliver vaccines to the most vulnerable, most valued communities that most need this, said said Dr. Conrado Barzaga, CEO of the Desert Healthcare District.
Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz, Rite Aid pharmacies, the Desert Healthcare District, and the Coachella Valley Unified School District worked together to make the clinic happen.
The clinic was part of the first initiatives to be able to apply the vaccine to employees in the education sector.
With unexpected access to doses of the new Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, the Palm Springs Unified School District quickly put together a vaccination clinic for district staff and teachers Wednesday.
It is the first of what the district hopes will be several clinics to help vaccinate its nearly 2,500 staff members. While other districts in the desert are also planning clinics, the PSUSD clinic came as a bit of a surprise.
“Rite-Aid in Desert Hot Springs reached out to us over the weekend and said they had 200 doses that specifically have to be allocated to educators, and would we be interested,” said Joan Boiko, coordinator of communications and community outreach for the district.

A mobile vaccine clinic is being held on Thursday at Coachella Valley High School. The COVID-19 vaccination event will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
While you don’t need an appointment, you will be asked to provide proof of eligibility under current county vaccine guidelines.
The event is a joint effort on behalf of Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz, Rite Aid Pharmacies, the Desert Healthcare District and Foundation, and the Coachella Valley Unified School District.

Coachella honors native Capitol Police Officer who protected Congress during riots
The Coachella City Council issues a proclamation honoring United States Capitol Police Officer Juan Lopez, a Coachella native, for his heroic actions during the riots at the Capitol.
Lopez was not able to be present to accept the honor as family said all Capitol Police Officers have been working 12 to 16 hour shifts daily since the riot.
Family was on hand to accept the honor on Juan s behalf. They presented a statement from Lopez himself. First and foremost, I would like to thank the city council and Mayor Hernandez for their support. I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized by the community which I will always consider my home. Although I know it is cliche to say this but I was just doing my job on that terrible along with my brothers and sisters. We took an oath to protect members of Congress, staff, and visitors. Even though the Capitol was breached, we succeeded in our mission. There w
