Smaller International Federations (IFs), with smaller operations and staff, are less exposed to the effects of the pandemic than larger organisations, according to a top Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) official.

Reuters that none of the 28 Summer Olympic IFs would be bankrupted by the cancellation of the Tokyo 2020 Games, but that impacts could be worse for the larger sports. The ones with the exposure are the bigger federations that burn a lot of money from their reserves, Ryan said. That is where the risk lies. Some have very substantial reserves but they have been fighting very hard to deliver events, like handball and their [ongoing] World Championship in Egypt.”
Papandrea Wants to Finish What She Started at IWF 01/14/21
(ATR) Ursula Papandrea wants to complete her work in removing the “toxic culture” at the International Weightlifting Federation.

The former acting president of IWF announced on January 14 that she is bidding to become the next permanent president for the federation. Elections are scheduled for the end of March 2021.
The IWF executive board ousted Papandrea in October 2020 after she had served about six months as acting IWF president following the resignation of Tamás Aján in April amid allegations of doping and corruption.
IJF Meets ASOIF Target on Further Review Federation Focus 12/23/20
(ATR) A re-evaluation by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) means the International Judo Federation has now met the governance target score that had previously eluded it.

The IJF requested a re-evaluation after it was ranked in Category C, the lowest level, when the third edition of the governance review was released in June.
The second evaluation took place in October.
“The results received from the ASOIF Governance Task Force confirm that the IJF exceeded the target score of 120 that was set for full members of ASOIF,” the federation said in a statement this week.

Marisol Casado, for many years the only female President of a Summer Olympic International Federation, has recently maintained her position at a sporting altitude still largely populated by men – and she plans to drive further change within World Triathlon until at least 2024.
The 64-year-old Spaniard was elected to serve a fourth term as President after seeing off challenger Mads Freund in a virtual vote at the organisation’s Congress on November 29. She will remain a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following her victory by 86 votes to 43.
