March leads to rally calling on lawmakers for increased police accountability

Delaware News Journal About 100 people marched through the streets of Wilmington Sunday to protest police brutality and the police shooting of 30-year-old Lymond Moses. Residents came out of their houses to watch, cheer and raise their fists in solidarity as the marchers passed by.  The march began at Kingswood Community Center in Riverside, a few blocks from where Moses was fatally shot by New Castle County police in January. Amanda Spence, Moses’ wife, led the march alongside the rest of Moses’ family, including his mother and sisters. “At the other side of a bullet is a family,” said Emeka Igwe, the attorney representing the family. 

Man shot Saturday night in Bear, continuing bloody weekend in Delaware

Delaware News Journal A 39-year-old man was injured Saturday night after being shot in Bear, continuing a bloody weekend in Delaware. New Castle County Police were called to the community of Rivers End, south of St. Georges Terrace, just before 9:41 p.m. for reports of the shooting. When officers arrived, they were told a man had been shot and had checked himself into a local hospital. Detectives arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation, the department said. Police have not given any additional information about the shooting, or whether they are aware of a motive. The incident was one of several shootings this weekend, which killed six people and injured two others.

New Castle County police investigating apparent shooting in Knollwood

Delaware News Journal New Castle County police are investigating a shooting in the Knollwood neighborhood in Claymont on Monday afternoon, police said. Police were called to the first block of Denham Ave. around 3 p.m. for reports of the shooting. One person was airlifted to the hospital, the department said. Photos and video show clothes on the ground near a maroon Buick. New Castle County police set up five evidence markers around the clothing. Monday s shooting continues a bloody four days in the state, which has recorded nine people shot, six fatally, since Friday.  The violence began in Wilmington on Friday night, when Jermaine Black and James McKnight, both 31, were killed around 8:39 p.m. in the 300 block of Concord Ave. A day later, around 5:30 p.m., 20-year-old Ji Air Wing was killed in the 300 block of W. 26th St.

In January, New Castle County Police fatally shot 30-year-old Lymond Moses in Wilmington, shortly after officers found him asleep in a running car parked near his mother’s home.
