People who look after family or friends have a lot to deal with, so we are really conscious of how much those little things matter. It is one less thing on the list for them to think about.
On Caring Together s part in the Call to Carers campaign, Mr Barber added: We ve had a steady stream of people getting in touch in the last week, and we expect more and more over time.

Of course our tradition is very much not to force people to do things, but encouragement is clearly important. I am conscious that the take-up is lower among some groups, and I understand the anxieties and fears, but it is crucial we all take this up. For me, there was a slight feeling of bruising for a short while, but that was it. A week on I physically feel absolutely fine, and personally quite relieved to have got it.

Melanie Craig, chief executive of Norfolk and Waveney CCG, said it was time for carers to go against their instincts and put themselves first . There are a lot more who are largely hidden and that is who we are trying to reach, Ms Craig explained. For many people this is their life and what they do, so they don t think of it as anything other than that. They don t think of it as having a description.
