Far more second doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered across Norfolk and Waveney during the latest seven-day period

New figures show the coronavirus vaccine rollout in Norfolk and Waveney has shifted dramatically in favour of second doses.
A record 58,878 people in the area received follow-up injections in the seven days up to April 11, according to the latest data published by NHS England.
Just 2,657 were administered initial doses in the same period, a stark contrast to the 71,222 given out during one week in January.

A drop-in vaccination clinic which had been set up to take place on a weekly basis has been suspended due to a low uptake.

Clinics across Norfolk and Waveney have been offering a walk-in service, meaning appointments do not need to be made in advance.
But Saturday sessions at the north Norfolk hospital have been stood down after the first, held on March 27, was poorly attended.

That includes over-50s, health and social care staff, care home residents, those deemed clinically extremely vulnerable, and all carers whether paid or unpaid.
People who live with someone who is clinically extremely vulnerable are now also eligible after a recent change to the priority guidance.

However, under-30s in priority groups 1-9 cannot attend the clinics as they are using the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
A decision was made earlier this week to only offer younger people the Pfizer or Moderna jabs, after research found a very small number of blood clots in those who had received the AstraZeneca product.
