Though Maharashtra is reporting the highest deaths in absolute numbers, Punjab is registering the highest death ratio, according to the Union health ministry data.
A debate has broken out over the safety and efficacy of the drug Ivermectin after Goa’s Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that all adults (18 and above) be given the medicine as prophylaxis to bring down mortality amid a surge in Covid cases. Scientists and doctors, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), have advised against the use of Ivermectin for Covid. Soumya Swaminathan, chief scientist, WHO, said, “Safety and efficacy are important when using any drug for a new indication. WHO recommends against the use of ivermectin for Covid-19 except within clinical trials.” Rane had said that expert panels from the UK, Italy, Spain and Japan found a large, statistically significant reduction in mortality, time to recovery and viral clearance in Covid-19 patients treated with Ivermectin. “This does not prevent Covid-19 infection but helps in reducing the severity of the disease and at the same time one should not have a false sense of security and complacency but

With hospitals across the country facing an acute shortage of beds due to a surge in new Covid-19 cases, leading hospitality brands are, yet again, opening up their facilities to support the overstretched healthcare industry.
From converting hotels into Covid care facilities in partnership with hospitals to providing paid quarantine facilities and care centres for elderly people, the pandemic-hit hospitality industry is repurposing its infrastructure to reduce overcrowding at hospitals.

A few Gurugram based citizen-focused organisations have set up a private COVID care facility for the elderly, who need basic isolation facilities and routine monitoring and are unable to take care of themselves at their homes.
Given the enormity of the challenge and amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Gurugram, Sarovar Hotels and Resorts, in partnership with Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, iamgurgaon and Emoha Elder Care, announced the opening of a 60-bed private COVID care facility at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Sector 29, Gurugram, said a press statement.
