High School Hockey Merger Floated

Fort Frances, ON, Canada / 93.1 The Border Apr 21, 2021 9:07 PM They have been rivals for decades. Now there is talk on both sides of the border about bringing together the high school hockey programs at Fort Frances High School and Falls High School in International Falls. A group behind the idea of a cooperative program includes coaches and alumni. They presented their idea this week to the Independent School District 361 Board. Marty Goulet of the Falls says declining talent pools for the Broncos and the lack of a competitive league for the Muskies make a cooperative program almost inevitable. “Based on the numbers on our side and on (the Muskies) side, the competitive landscape and the declining numbers with the teams they play, this needs to happen one day,” says Goulet.

High school students struggle to get volunteer hours during pandemic – Fort Frances Times

14 April 2021 Jocelyn Galloway For the upcoming high school graduates, community volunteer hours continue to be a difficult hurdle to overcome, as the pandemic continues. In acknowledgment, the Ontario Ministry of Education has revised the 40-hour community involvement graduation requirement, so students will not be held back by the challenges related to COVID-19. Student graduates of the 2020-21 school year only require 20 hours of community involvement activities to get their Ontario secondary school diploma. Also, students aged 14 years and older can count up to a maximum of 10 hours from paid employment towards their earned hours, with pre-approval. If students count paid hours, they will be required to complete a reflection exercise to indicate how their work contributed to society.
