DEFENSE EQUIPMENT manufacturers have been showing interest in setting up operations in the Philippines as soon as industrial zones are put up, a top official of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) said.
“There are manifestations of companies those who are manufacturing defense equipment, uniforms, weapons, military ships and aircraft

ng kanilang (many have expressed their) interest to bring their manufacturing companies here once we have the defense industrial complexes,” PEZA Director-General Charito B. Plaza said in an online interview on Thursday.
PEZA plans to transform military reservation areas in Fort Bonifacio, Camp Evangelista, and Maguindanao into defense industrial complexes to manufacture military weapons and equipment. Ms. Plaza is aiming to have the areas declared as industrial zones before the end of the Duterte administration in mid-2022.

Courtesy of BFP-NCR A fire hit an under renovation retail property in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Thursday morning. According to a report of the Taguig City Fire Department, the fire broke out on the third floor of a building owned by Toyota Philippines at Bonifacio Global City. The fire started at 10:30 a.m. It reached the first alarm at 10:45 a.m. and second alarm at 10:50 a.m., before it was declared under control at 11:19 a.m. Fire was declared out at 11:33 a.m. At least five vehicles were damaged in the incident but no injuries or casualties were reported.

ILIGAN CITY ‒ The Umpa Bangcola family scored a victory in its legal battle with its chief political rival when former Salvador, Lanao del Norte Mayor Johnny Tawan-tawan was arrested at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City last April 1, Maundy Thursday.
It took five years for the family to get justice over the death of the family matriarch, but for them, they said, it was worth the wait.
In a press conference Saturday, Abdul Nasser “Bebot” Umpa Bangcola said the family got a sigh of relief following the arrest of Tawan-tawan. Tawan-tawan is now under hospital arrest after he tested COVID-19 positive apart from having a heart problem.
