Slain Army Sgt. 1st Class John Jean’s closed casket arrives at Fort Lauderdale airport Published:  Updated:  Tags:  FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The U.S. flag tightly wrapped U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class John Jean’s closed casket on Thursday as it descended from a United Airlines plane at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Jean’s wife, Andranik Drummond-Reid; his sister, Vanessa Servius; his brother, Jean Scaintira, and other relatives watched as six honor guards, three on each side, carried the casket to a hearse. “He left a wife, he left two kids, he left a sister, he left a brother and he left a mother,” Drummond-Reid said.

Everyone was extremely frustrated and confused wondering why for the rain, it’s not like it’s a hurricane or anything. Why are the flights canceled for so many days,” said Madison Loeffler, who is now stranded in Miami.  Most travelers were told the next available flights were on Wednesday. Many passengers then rushed to the rental car area to try and drive home.

The storms on Sunday prompted airlines to cancel flights. Some of the long lines spanned far inside Terminal 3. Andino was hoping to fly to Newark, New Jersey. She said her husband had to leave the terminal with their daughter, who has autistic spectrum disorder. She suffered a panic attack amid the chaos. “Right now, we have been waiting close to 24 hours,” Andino said.
