Teacher Scrawls Heteros Rule Over Students Chalk-Drawn Pride Flags

A teacher at a Houston-area school is under investigation for allegedly defacing LGBTQ+ chalk drawings.
Students at Sartartia Middle School in Fort Bend, Texas, say they were drawing a variety of LGBTQ+ Pride flags in chalk during a free period, when the supervising instructor approached and directed them to erase them.
According to a parent s account to KPRC TV, a local NBC affiliate, the students refused. And in response, the teacher threatened to pour a drink on the chalk art. Instead, the supervisor took a piece of peach-colored chalk and wrote Heteros Rule in all caps over the flags.

Parents were left in disbelief after a middle school teacher allegedly wrote “heteros rule” on top of students’ chalk art of LGBT+ Pride flags.

KPRC 2 that her daughter and other students had been drawing on a sidewalk during their free period. Some of the art depicted LGBT+ Pride flags including the lesbian, transgender, pansexual and asexual Pride flags.
Students Say Teacher Scrawled Heteros Rule Over Their Pro-LGBTQ Chalk Art

Students at Sartartia Middle School in Fort Bend, Texas say they were creating chalk art earlier this week when their teacher reportedly took issue with the pro-LGBTQ+ messaging of their drawings.
According to KPRC 2, the teacher allegedly responded to the students drawings of pride flags by scrawling the message, Heteros Rule on top of their art.
Deeply shaken by the alleged homophobic incident, students and parents voiced their concerns to KPRC 2.
One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, explained to the news outlet that her daughter was one of the students who experienced the teacher s outburst. She says that her daughter and her peers were reportedly drawing with chalk on a sidewalk courtyard during their free period. A Texas middle school teacher has been accused of defacing a chalk art mural featuring drawings of LGBTQ Pride flags and disrespecting the students who made the drawings.
According to a parent of one of the children involved in the incident, students at Sartartia Middle School, in Sugar Land, Texas, had been drawing on the courtyard sidewalk during their free period. Some of the chalk art included drawings of LGBTQ Pride flags.
The parent who asked her identity be kept anonymous told Houston-based NBC affiliate KPRC-TV her daughter and the other students were approached by a supervising teacher, who ordered them to erase the Pride flags. When the students refused, the parent says the teacher “threatened to pour a drink on the chalk art, and finally grabbed some peach-colored chalk and wrote ‘HETEROS RULE’ over the Pride flags.”
Fort Bend ISD board announces next steps in nationwide search for new superintendent

RICHMOND, Texas – The Fort Bend Independent School District’s Board of Trustees announced the next steps in their nationwide search for a new superintendent during a board meeting Monday.
The board also approved the search timeline that shows a lone finalist for the job would be announced during the week of June 21 with expectations that the new superintendent will join the district full-time in August.
The board confirmed Dr. Charles Dupre’s official resignation from the district will be effective August 31, 2021, with his last day in the district set for June 10, 2021.
