BAKER A 9-year-old boy was killed and five other people, including three young children, were critically or seriously injured in a head-on collision on State Road 4 on Monday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. The crash occurred about 6:25 p.m. near Keyser Mill Road southeast of Baker. A red Subaru SUV occupied by a 39-year-old woman and four children, all from Evergreen, Alabama, was traveling east on SR 4 as a gray Kia SUV driven by a Baker woman of an unspecified age was approaching from the opposite direction, the FHP reported.

Complications may include arrhythmia or heart failure. “We don’t know for sure how this is going to heal. Everything about this virus is sort of new,” Goldberger says. “In five years, are we going to be seeing people who had COVID and now have some lingering scarring in their heart and are at risk for arrhythmia? It’s possible.”

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS The Walton County Sheriff s Office is continuing to investigate a Jan. 10 shooting that left its victim paralyzed from the chest down and has investigators still wondering about any possible motive. A hunt remains under way for the person or persons who shot Juana Arano, who lives in DeFuniak Springs with her husband and two children, as she was driving down U.S. Highway 90 on the night of Jan. 10. In the hours after the shooting, Arano told Sheriff s Office investigators the shots came from a vehicle that initially was following closely behind her in the vicinity of Fairfield Drive. The gunfire began as the vehicle described by Arano as a dark-colored sedan, possibly with four doors pulled around and passed her.
