BAKER A 9-year-old boy was killed and five other people, including three young children, were critically or seriously injured in a head-on collision on State Road 4 on Monday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The crash occurred about 6:25 p.m. near Keyser Mill Road southeast of Baker.
A red Subaru SUV occupied by a 39-year-old woman and four children, all from Evergreen, Alabama, was traveling east on SR 4 as a gray Kia SUV driven by a Baker woman of an unspecified age was approaching from the opposite direction, the FHP reported.
The effects of coronavirus on the heart aren’t fully known.
Along with all the other unknowns about the coronavirus is whether it has long-term effects on the heart.
Dr. Jeffrey Goldberger, a cardiologist and chief of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, says many COVID-19 survivors even those who experienced mild or no symptoms have ongoing heart inflammation as a result of their infections. Complications may include arrhythmia or heart failure.
“We don’t know for sure how this is going to heal. Everything about this virus is sort of new,” Goldberger says. “In five years, are we going to be seeing people who had COVID and now have some lingering scarring in their heart and are at risk for arrhythmia? It’s possible.”
State s pre-registration for COVID-19 vaccination now ready to use in Okaloosa County
It is doing so in conjunction with the state s launch of a statewide pre-registration for vaccines.
The state has launched its pre-registration, which is now available at https://myvaccine.fl.gov/ or by calling 866-200-3599 or TTY 833-990-3450, according to a news release from the Okaloosa branch of the Florida Department of Health.
Even as the list of pre-registrants is being built, the Florida Department of Health is working with the state s Department of Emergency Management to come up with a mechanism to confidentially share with county branches the names and information of those pre-registered.
DeFUNIAK SPRINGS The Walton County Sheriff s Office is continuing to investigate a Jan. 10 shooting that left its victim paralyzed from the chest down and has investigators still wondering about any possible motive.
A hunt remains under way for the person or persons who shot Juana Arano, who lives in DeFuniak Springs with her husband and two children, as she was driving down U.S. Highway 90 on the night of Jan. 10.
In the hours after the shooting, Arano told Sheriff s Office investigators the shots came from a vehicle that initially was following closely behind her in the vicinity of Fairfield Drive. The gunfire began as the vehicle described by Arano as a dark-colored sedan, possibly with four doors pulled around and passed her.
