Fort Hunter Liggett to Install Sustainable Microgrid Project

California’s Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) recently announced the upcoming groundbreaking of its electrical distribution microgrid. To support USAG Fort Hunter Liggett’s goals to achieve net zero energy, while also attaining US Army Directives to achieve Critical Mission Resiliency, the $21.6 million project will include the design and installation of a secure, islandable, and autonomous microgrid with controls and interconnection for new and existing generation and storage systems at the 165,000-acre US Army Reserve training center.
Construction groundbreaking of the project is a step toward the base’s goal of reaching net zero energy use by 2022. The new microgrid system will improve energy security for Fort Liggett by separating it from more vulnerable external systems in the event of a loss of utility grid power. The Estrella Warbirds Museum in Paso Robles is partnering with Fort Hunter Liggett for a unique installation.
On Monday, the museum transported a couple of World War II-era Army vehicles to the base to be put on display.
It s all in preparation for Fort Hunter Liggett s open house taking place this Saturday, May 15. It s open to the public. It s free of charge We will like to have our community members come out there and see what we do for Fort Hunter Liggett. Everybody is welcomed and I m sure you d have a good time, said Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Fluckiger.
The Bureau of Land Management welcomes new field manager to Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office
Tim Gilloon joined the Bureau of Land Management Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office as the new field manager located in Palm Springs, Calif. Drawing on his years of combined experience from federal civil service, private industry, and the military, Tim is well prepared to take on his newest challenge as a BLM field manager responsible for more than 1.7 million acres of public lands within portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties.
“Tim is a great addition to the BLM team and will be responsible for managing a variety of program areas and resources both within the California Desert Conservation Area and California’s South Coast area,” said California Desert District Manager, Andrew Archuleta. “We are excited to have Tim lead the Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office.”
