(Shutterstock) PHOENIXVILLE, PA Hospital safety grades from Leapfrog were low for several Tower Health hospitals in Chester County, including Phoenixville Hospital, Brandywine Hospital, and Pottstown Hospital. The three facilities were awarded grades of D by the Leapfrog Group, an organization the performs regular assessments of hospitals. Numerous Pennsylvania hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades. The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.

Two Somerset Men Facing Charges 11:13 pm Two men are facing charges after Somerset borough police say they agreed to meet on April 21st on the 300 block South Edgewood Avenue to fight each other. Police say the fight between Jeremy Finzel and Zachary Beaken, both of Somerset, turned into a stabbing. Officers say Beaken was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center due to his injuries. Both men are considered suspects and will face aggravated assault charges.

Police said Clippinger lost control of the vehicle along a left curve and crashed into a ditch, becoming airborne. Clippinger was flown by medical helicopter to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. The investigation is ongoing. A passenger, Dustin E. Llewellyn, 40, of Bedford suffered minor injuries. Money was stolen. State police said $50 was stolen from a 31-year-old Bedford man who has full-time caretakers at his residence sometime between April 12 and 13. The investigation is ongoing.

Such automation is under consideration as a long-term solution for the hospital’s current shortage of job applicants, Conemaugh Memorial’s CEO Bill Caldwell said. “That technology exists,” Caldwell said, “and our leadership is evaluating it.” Local companies across the board in Johnstown are hiring, but job-seekers are light, Johnstown Area Regional Industries Workforce Development Director Debra Balog said.

Hospital Hands Out PPE Thousands of personal protective equipment items were given out Thursday afternoon at Conemaugh East Hills. The recipients: 41 local EMS providers and fire departments in six counties throughout the Southern Alleghenies. Storm Nagle, Prehospital Manager at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, said the EMS agencies were allotted a certain quantity of supplies based on their specific needs. “Over the last year during the pandemic, our EMS providers have been the front-line workers. This is just a small token of appreciation for everything that they’ve done,” Nagle said. Highmark Health donated the PPE through a grant, partnering with Allegheny Health Network and Conemaugh Health System to organize the distribution.
