Members of the team stuck at Keeladi cluster spend their time documenting and researching the excavated material (file photo) CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu state archaeology department will soon begin excavations at three more sites Korkai (Tuticorin), Gangaikonda Cholapuram (Ariyalur) and Mayiladumparai (Krishnagiri), said T Udhayachandran, the department’s principal secretary and commissioner. This is in addition to the ongoing excavations at Keeladi cluster, Adichanallur, Sivagalai and Kodumanal. “We have got permission from the Central Advisory Board for Archaeology (CABA) for excavations in the seven sites. The department will also conduct field studies in Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Krishnagiri and Vellore,” he said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

COIMBATORE: Two people, including a 17-year-old boy, died when a car they were travelling in hit a roadside tree near Perur on the Coimbatore - Siruvani Road on Tuesday night. The deceased have been identified as M Sanjeev Kumar, 20, of Alandurai and his relative, V Anandharaman, 17. The duo were returning home from their relative’s place in Sennur. When they neared a marriage hall, Sanjeev who was driving the car turned his vehicle towards left to prevent it from hitting the median. “The car was overspeeding. Sanjeev could not control the vehicle. The car hit a roadside tree, and both of them sustained serious injuries,” a police officer said.

Coimbatore: Slugfest between the ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK in Coimbatore intensified on Monday as deputy speaker of the state assembly Pollachi V Jayaraman and a host of AIADMK leaders launched a scathing attack on DMK president M K Stalin at a public meeting in Pollachi. Jayaraman said he was ready to quit politics if charges levelled against him and his family members by DMK in connection with Pollachi sexual assault case were proved. “Stalin has been linking my family to the case. I dare him to furnish proof. If he comes out with evidence, I will quit politics forever. If he is unable to furnish proof, will Stalin step down from the post of DMK president?’’ Jayaraman asked. ``Let him take a week and respond,’’ Jayaraman added.
