AAA Kinathukadavu Assembly constituency with 3.08 lakh voters also saw an exiting contest in the 2021 Assembly election. Just as the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency went down to the wire, Kinathukadavu also saw a tight race between the DMK’s Kurichi S. Prabhakaran and AIADMK’s S. Damodaran. But it was not a triangular contest.
In fact, it was the last of the 10 Assembly constituencies in the district for which the officials declared the results. For, it had more rounds of counting than Coimbatore South – 36.
At the start of the counting process, Mr. Damodaran led from the front maintaining lead until Round 13, when he had a 426-vote advantage.

CHENNAI: While the DMK has won 125 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the party s official strength stands at 133, including eight MLAs from allies who contested on the rising sun symbol. The last time the DMK captured power with full majority was in 1996.
The AIADMK won 66 seats out of the 179 it contested. Its allies PMK and BJP won five and four seats respectively, revealed the election commission’s official data.

After polling ended at 7 p.m. Tuesday, 6,885 electronic voting machines, 5,316 control units and 5,894 voter verifiable paper audit trail machines from the 4,427 polling booths reached the constituency-wise strong rooms established at the counting centre in Government College of Technology.
Sources said while machines from polling booths within the city were taken first to the strong rooms, those from the city’s periphery followed and the ones to reach the strong rooms last were those from Valparai. There, the presiding officers handed over the machines to the officers in-charge of the strong rooms and left after completing the paper work. And, the entire process ended by around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Thereafter, security personnel took over the security of the strongrooms and the counting centre, where the machines would remain till

The Makkal Needhi Maiam on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the returning officer, Coimbatore South Assembly constituency, seeking disqualification of a candidate whose cadre were caught distributing tokens. The party candidate Kamal Haasan’s chief election agent M. Udhayakumar claimed that through the media he had learnt that supporters of BJP candidate Vanathi Srinivasan were caught with those tokens.
