About 160 commandos from the National Security Guards (NSG) collaborated with the Coimbatore City Police to conduct counter-terrorism drills in the city .
Rescue operation
A press release from Coimbatore City Police on Friday said that the NSG team conducted the drill at the Air Force School and at a private hotel on Race Course Road. The drills were held from 6 p.m. on Thursday to 3 a.m. on Friday.
The drill comprised usage of dummy explosives and shooting using dummy bullet rounds. The NSG commandos along with Coimbatore City Police rescued the workers, who pretended to be trapped inside the buildings as part of the drill. The time taken by the personnel to execute the rescue operations was calculated, according to the release.

Traffic diversion on Mettupalayam Road

The district administration has announced traffic diversion on Mettupalayam Road to expedite the flyover construction work at the Kavundampalayam junction.
According to a release, the diversion will be in place for two months from January 2. While two-wheelers and ambulances will be permitted to use the existing route, other vehicles will have to take the alternative routes suggested.
Vehicles proceeding towards Mettupalayam will have to take the road near Saibaba Temple that goes to Saibaba Colony. Vehicles will use Thadagam Road to go to KNG Pudur. From there, they can go to Kanuvai and Thudiyalur or GN Mills and Thudiyalur. The other option is to take the road near TVS showroom and go towards GCT and from there use Thadagam Road to go to Kanuvai and Thudiyalur.

Two persons were killed when a truck ran over them at Nariyampalli near Avinashi in Tiruppur district on Monday. Police said Nandhagopal Krishnan (41), a junior engineer at the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s Annur depot, was driving a two-wheeler from Annur with his friend Ananthakumar (37) on the pillion.
When Krishnan tried to avoid hitting a parked vehicle at Nariyampalli, the two fell off the two-wheeler and the truck ran over them. Both of them died on the spot. Avinashi police registered a case.
History-sheeters warned
In an effort to curb crimes, the Coimbatore City Police on Monday held a meeting with around 50 history-sheeters to warn them against repeating any crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) G. Stalin spoke to the history-sheeters, who had been arrested for crimes such as murder, theft and possession of ganja and were out on bail, police sources said.
