Ramanathapuram sees no new case, while 5 districts record one each; 531 persons discharged
The State recorded 509 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, even as Ramanathapuram district saw no new case and five others Perambalur, Tenkasi, Theni, Tirupattur and Villupuram reported one infection each.
A total of 24 districts recorded fewer than 10 cases each. This included Madurai (nine), Tiruvannamalai (two), Tirunelveli (eight), Tiruchi (nine) and Virudhunagar (three). A total of 148 persons tested positive for the infection in Chennai, 57 in Coimbatore and 48 in Chengalpattu. There were 28 cases in Tiruvallur, 21 each in Salem and Tiruppur and 20 in Erode.

Coimbatore district on Thursday reported 59 new cases of COVID-19. The Health Department said that 528 patients from the district were undergoing treatment different in hospitals on Thursday.
According to the Department, a 72-year-old male from Coimbatore district died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, taking the district’s death toll to 665.
On Thursday, 60 persons from the district recovered from the disease and got discharged from different hospitals.
In the Nilgiris, six people tested positive. With the latest infections, the total number of confirmed cases in the district stands at 8,135. The number of deaths in the district stood at 47 on Tuesday while 56 people are undergoing treatment.

12 more persons succumb to COVID-19; Villupuram and Perambalur report no new infection
Tamil Nadu recorded 805 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, with two districts Villupuram and Perambalur reporting no new infection. Another 12 persons died, taking the toll to 12,200.
Till date, a total of 8,23,986 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in the State. As many as 911 persons were discharged on Thursday, taking the total figure to 8,04,239. Presently 7,547 persons are under treatment in the State. Of these, 2,274 are in Chennai, 734 in Coimbatore and 403 in Chengalpattu.

Coimbatore district has 734 COVID-19 patients under institutional care, including the 78 new cases reported on Thursday.
The Health Department said 88 persons were discharged on Thursday and a 48-year-old woman died of the disease at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Wednesday. The woman was also suffering from diabetes and systemic hypertension and was admitted to the hospital on January 1. With this, the toll so far stood at 659.
Tiruppur reported 27 new cases, taking the district’s total tally to 17,292. A 55-year-old woman from the district died, taking the district’s toll to 220. As many as 16,798 have recovered and 274 were active cases. On Thursday, 30 patients were discharged.
