KARACHI: The Korangi police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two suspects, who had allegedly kidnapped a businessman and released him after getting ransom a few days ago.
The officials said that the businessman was kidnapped in Korangi Industrial Area on January 11 and released the very next day after a deal.
“The kidnappers took him to an unknown place and contacted his family,” said an official. “Initially they demanded Rs2 million from his family and then raised their demand to Rs5m, but finally agreed on Rs400,000.”
Four wounded in shootings
Four people, including two women, were wounded in separate incidents of firing in the metropolis on Sunday.
Baghdadi police said 26-year-old Arsalan, son of Mushtaq, was wounded when he resisted a mugging bid in Lyari’s Shah Baig Lane.
The casualty was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Separately, 12-year-old Huma, daughter of Tahir, was injured when a stray bullet hit her in the limits of the Quaidabad police station. She was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
In another incident, a 15-year-old boy, Saifur Rehman, son of Asghar, was suffered a bullet injury during aerial firing at a wedding ceremony in Darwesh Colony the within Ferozabad police limits. He was taken to the JPMC for medical treatment.
Wahab wants tanneries to switch to solar power

KARACHI : Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab has suggested that the tanneries in Korangi Industrial Area should switch to the mode of solar power for operating their combined effluent treatment plant (CETP) to bring down the cost of treating the waste water of the industry.
He made this suggestion while taking part in a tree plantation tree drive on the green belt in Sector 7-A of Korangi Industrial Area. The office-bearers of the Pakistan Tanneries Association (PTA) were also present on the occasion.
Barrister Wahab said that using solar power to run the CETP would be helpful in bringing down the production cost of Pakistani leather products to increase their competitiveness in the international market.

KARACHI: The body of an 11-year-old boy, who had gone missing over a week ago, was found in a Lyari locality on Sunday.
The Baghdadi police said that the “acid-burnt” body was found at a garbage dump near the slaughterhouse area. It appeared that it was lain there for three to four days.
The corpse was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
The boy’s family had lodged a missing/kidnapping report at the Chakiwara police station on Dec 13. The complainant said his son had left the home on Dec 12 but did not return. He suspected that his son might have been ‘kidnapped for some unknown reasons’.

The bodies of four men, including two kidnapped persons, were found from different areas of the city on Sunday.
The body of a man was found near the power house in Awami Colony. The police arrived on the spot and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Riaz and his body bore wounds and torture marks. The case pertaining to Riaz s kidnap was registered two days ago at Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) Police Station, after which the police had taken some suspects into custody but no further progress was made in the investigation.
