It was recently announced that Chris Pine is in negotiations with Paramount Pictures for the starring role in a Dungeons and Dragons movie scheduled for release in 2022.
Pine is of course the prettiest of the Hollywood Chrises, known for his roles as Captain James T. Kirk in the recent
Star Trek series and as Gal Gadot s love interest, Steve Trevor, in the
Wonder Woman movies. And
Dungeons & Dragons AKA DnD is a fantasy roleplaying game developed by Wizards of the Coast for their audience of nerds.
There is of course nothing wrong with either nerds (hi there!) or the forms of entertainment made for them be they science fiction, fantasy, or something entirely different (maybe like a blend of science fiction and fantasy?). In fact, in recent years nerd culture and DnD in particular has gained wider acceptance.

Further casting details have yet to be released, but they are hoping to begin production in the first quarter of 2021 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, reports Deadline.

Goosebumps director Rob Lettermen would helm the
Dungeons & Dragons movie way back in 2016, but that film never materialized and the project has gone through various iterations including one with
Lego Batman director Chris McKay. The new film is being re-written and directed by Goldstein and Daley, the duo behind the Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams-led hit
Game Night, on an original draft from Michael Gilion.

Dungeons & Dragons first became popular in 1974, and since then has amassed millions of players and fans worldwide. The hugely popular property has also influenced numerous writers, directors, game designers and other creative professionals throughout its four decades. The feature was first announced in 2013 wherein a rights-dispute began between the studio and Hasbro (parent company of publisher Wizards of the Coast), but the issues were resolved last year and the film remains in-development.
