DHAKA, May 11, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) arrested four private university students on charges of conducting online gambling business through a casino platform using virtual currency in a raid in Nikunja area of the capital on Monday.
The arrestees are- Md Shahinur Rahman, 26, Dipta Roy Pranto, 25, Md Golam Mostafa, 26 and Md Rakibul Hasan, 26.
Also, laptops, iPads, multiple smart phones, hard disks, passports and national identity cards used in online gambling were recovered from their possession at the time of the raid.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (Economic Crime and Human Trafficking Team), told BSS that on the basis of secret information, four of them were arrested in a raid in Nikunja area of Khilkhet police station around 6.30 pm on Monday.
BB stops supplying new banknotes from head office The New Nation

The Bangladesh Bank has stopped supplying new banknotes from its head office in Motijheel in the capital to general people ahead of Eid-ul Fitr in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus.
However, holidaymakers can collect new banknotes, popularly used as Eidi or Eid tips, as the central bank has provided the notes to cash counters and ATM booths of commercial banks and its 10 branch offices.
Long before the lockdown, BB took the decision to release fresh banknotes of various denominations worth Tk 30,000 crore ahead of Eid to check the rush for collecting fresh banknotes to its head office.
4 killed, 7 injured in Rangpur road accident

RANGPUR, April 30, 2021 (BSS) – Four persons were killed and seven others injured in a road accident at Mithapukur upazila town in the district on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in the small hours of today.
The deceased labourers were identified as Rafikul Islam, 45, Shahidul Islam, 50, and Abul Kalam, 45, hailing from different villages of Lalmonirhat and Fazlul Karim, 65, of Sirajganj districts.
“The accident occurred when an onion-laden truck overturned as its driver lost control over the steering while overtaking another truck there around 1 am today,” said Yamin-Ud-Dowla, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barodorga Highway Police Station.
The Rangpur-bound truck from Bagerhat was carrying onions with some 11 labourers, mostly from Lalmonirhat and other northern districts, aboard when the accident took place killing one labourer on the spot and injuring 10 others.
More 2000 journalists to get assistance amid COVID-19: Hasan

DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that the government has taken a decision to provide assistance to 2,000 more journalists as part of its financial assistance to the newsmen to help them tide over their problems amid the Coronavirus crisis.
The minister, also the chairman of Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, informed this to reporters after an emergency meeting of the trust at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.
Information Secretary and also trustee board vice chairman Khaja Mia addressed the meeting through online.
